An action platformer roguelike arcade game, where you throw dice and avoid my magick machinations.

Controls:

  • Movement - Arrow keys / WASD
  • Jump - SPACE
  • Grab -  X / M / UP / W
  • Dash - Z / K / F

It looks like the up and down arrow keys cause the page to scroll, so I'd recommend using WASD. I like using SPACE to jump, M to grab, and K to dash.

If you have a high refresh monitor, it might totally screw up the game by speeding it up. I forgot to account for that in the programming, sorry! In the post-jam update, I added a setting to reduce the fps, which will maybe help!

Features:

  • Your host, yours truly :3
  • Chaotic dice-chucking gameplay!
  • 10 different 'boons', which add challenges to the game!
  • 5 levels of difficulty (I've beat 3)
  • You can change the difficulty or font  at any time from the settings menu (ESC)
  • And a boss!

Post jam update:

  • Two new boons! Spikes (4) and orbits (2)
  • Replaced boon of shockwaves with another boon of pips, it made the boss unreasonably difficult and was generally annoying.
  • Gain a point of health when you pick boons, this makes the game easier, and the longer difficulties MUCH easier.
  • The number-to-roll is now a random number *besides* seven, this slows the game down just a tad and adds a little more strategy to your rolls.
  • A hacky way to adjust the fps if your hardware is making the game run super quickly.
  • More sound effects!
  • More visual effects!
  • And other miscellaneous QOL and feel tweaks!
  • Thanks for playing!

This is my entry for GMTK 2022, the theme  was 'Roll of the Dice', which I took very literally. I did all the programming in VSCode using the Love2D framework, made all the assets myself in ASeprite, and music/sound effects in Jummbox.

This jam went really smoothly actually! I haven't made anything quite like this before, but it was well within my comfort zone. Definitely my favorite jam game. I was able to spend two straight days working on it, and get mostly enough sleep in between.

I submitted the game before the 48 hours, but during the grace period I added a setting to toggle the font to be more readable for accessibility's sake, along with some last minute tweaks.
